Meet 101
Expect to arrive 30 minutes prior to the warm-up time given by the coaches. Other than volunteers actively working a shift, no families will be allowed to set up inside the fence. Families are welcome to set-up tents outside the fence area, or utilize picnic tables that are located under the pavilion adjacent to the pool.
Spectators may enter the pool area to watch their swimmers events. All spectators must remain on the side of the pool nearest the restrooms and entry gate. No spectators will be allowed past the ready benches on either side of the pool.

What to Bring
- Remember to label everything and no glass!
- Team swimsuit
- Team swimcap
- Goggles, an extra pair of goggles, and goggle maintenance (see this helpful tip)
- Black Sharpie marker to mark your child
- Shade
- Folding chairs
- Team t-shirt
- Extra towels
- Sunscreen
- Games and activities for between events
- Warm clothing, such as a pull over or robe
- A small amount of cash to purchase heat sheets/concessions
- Change of clothes (or a towel for your car seat!)
- Plenty of water and smart snacks (A concessions stand is available for additional drinks and snacks)
What to Eat
- Worst Foods (not recommended before or during meets): Fatty foods like potato chips, doughnuts, french fries, danishes, and proteins like peanut better, any meat or fish. All these foods are slow to digest, will be in the stomach for many hours, and will rob muscles of blood in order to digest the food.
- Best Foods (recommended prior to the meet): Fruits, vegetables, cereals, bagels, and breads. These are out of the stomach in 2 hours.
- During the Meet: Bananas, crackers, plain toast (no butter), all in modest amounts. Fruit juices, water or Gatorade equivalent are necessary throughout the meet. Lack of liquids will affect your performance even before you feel thirsty.
Preparing for a Meet
- Eat a good dinner with plenty of carbs and low amounts of protein the night before
- Go to bed as early as possible
- Eat a light breakfast such as cereal and a banana or an energy bar
- Drink plenty of water the day before the meet
- Avoid energy or soft drinks and sugary snacks before you swim
- Upon Arrival at the Pool:
- Check-in your swimmer at the gate. They will remain in the pool pavilion until the lifeguards are in place in the pool area. Adults will be allowed in to setup their family’s viewing area.
- Use the sheets posted on the pavilion wall or purchase a heat sheet to mark your child for their event. Marking is as follows:
- Mark on their LEFT bicep with their Event number, Heat number and Lane number
- Put sunscreen on AFTER you have marked your child. (the marker will NOT write on arms with sunscreen on them). Spray sunscreen can smear the marker. Lotion will work better in this area.
- A helpful tip: Keep snacks elevated, either on a table, on the fence, or on the back of your chair, to keep the ants away!
